DANCES
Dances
Here’s a little fact about the last dance, not many eight graders were there. Why? The dances have lost their romantic touch. They no longer seem so fun-and-fancy-free. Why? The first dance was in the gym, and nobody liked having the dance in the gym. It was simply too open and everybody felt exposed. That dance should have been in the Megaron where the Christmas lights shine, there are tables to sit at, and it feels nice and enclosed. Also, nobody’s song requests got played! That is what turns a lot of people away. It’s not like the dances are required! The amount of time for slow dances seems really short. You’re dancing and enjoying your time waltzing around, and suddenly…POOF! Katy Perry comes back.
Solution? The big mistake that turned middlers away this time was the whole dance in the gym thing, but I have a feeling there will be many more people at the Dressy Dance.

There isn’t really a reason that the 8th graders didn’t go to the dance. I guess it is just different when teach aren’t watching you and telling you what to do. Also like you said Andrew kids request songs that are not dancing material at all and i know that is something that turns a lot of kids off from it. I kinda liked the dance in the gym so for me that was not an issue. I am excited about the dressy dance though.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree, songs that are not dancing material are played more than songs that are dancing songs. I liked the gym for dances though, but I think that if less teachers were standing and constantly watching everyone it would be better. I am also excited for the dressy dance. I hear it is very fun.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI think that the 8th graders had other priorities. They might have wanted to stay home or go to a party.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI couldn’t agree with you more. The dances were too open and no one really seemed to be enjoying themselves. There should be a much larger crowd at the dressy dance because it’s in the student center, which I think is a much better location.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI do agree that the gym was too open of an area and that having so much area was kind of intimidating… The music was fine for the most part I guess, some of the songs are totally impossible to dance to though, just like Marialena said. The slow song issue is kind of realistic I guess. I mean it can be enjoyable but if it goes on for too long then it just becomes boring.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoActually, no one cared much about the location. I think most people had better things to do. And, the DJ seems to not play one requested songs. Can we hire Bruce to DJ the dressy dance?
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI totally agree. The first dance was way to open and it just ruined it a little. Also, the songs people request should definitely be played or else were listening to repetitive, boring songs. Also, like Marialena said it was kind of awkward having teachers just stare…. I think that the first chance just was not that fun so it like made it kind of lame and like you said Andrew dances are not required. I am wicked excited for the dressy dance though. (:
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI disagree, the first dance was much better then the second and it was not that open. If it was to open than the second dance was to small. all thou I do agree about how it was awkward with the teachers there.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree that the song requests are really bad. I think people should be able to bring cds of songs that people want to play. I know that I’m bringing a cd of songs from an artist not many people have heard of yet! I still think that song requests should be played.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoThe gym wasn’t too bad of a location for the dance, but I think the problem was more with the teachers standing REALLY close because they felt like the gym was too open. Like Marialena said, I think many people decided not to go because they didn’t like the teachers watching them all the time. I definitely think that the student center is a better location for the dance, I’m pretty excited.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree that the dance was way too open. hopefully the dressy dance will be better in the student center. The big problem with the dances are that the teachers just stand really close and stare at you when your trying to have a good time and dance with your friends. Its awkward to be honest.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI totally agree with the fact that the songs requested never get played. It makes the kids really frustrated and irritated. The funny thing is when nobody is dancing and kids are just standing there, the DJ doesn’t think to change the song. But anyways great ideas and suggestions Andrew. Well written piece.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree that the gym has proven to be a bad location for our dances. Although the High Schoolers sometimes have theirs there, I don’t think that means we should start doing that, too. Since we have so many less people than they do, it’s a really different feel. Most of us will get to experience some of the Upper School dances soon, so I say we wait until then rather than try to disguise our dances in shoes too big.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoOn a more positive note..I’m so excited for the dressy dance! I think the Student Center is a great place to have it–and I know the turn-out will be impressive. =]
I agree that the dances are too open like in the Gym and that they should be put in the Cafeteria. I also think that the music was pretty bad at the last dance and that song requests should be listened to.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree with you Natalie. I don’t think the dance in the Old Gym was that good, because there was way too much space and there’s only about 150 kids in our grade, and there are like 500 in the upper school. The dressy dance is something to look forward to though. The student center is a good location for a dance, because it not as open and awkward.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoi agree. the music the last dance was HORRIBLE and having it in the gym was really awkward. i also agree with kyle that the student center is a better location
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI kind of agree. I like the dance MUCH better in the Megaron and I think more people will come to the Dressy Dance. The acoustics in the gym were bad and it was too spread out, I like the tables in the Megaron to be able to relax for a second, instead of those hard benches. I’m excited for the Dressy Dance (mostly because I bought my dress and REALLY like it!) and I think we will all have fun, at least I hope because it is the eighth graders last dance. Let’s make it good!

I definitely agree with everything you said, Andrew. With those changes made, I think it will be better.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI totally agree! The dances in the Megaron are so much better than the one in the gym. In the gym their is too much space, and it just didn’t seem as fun. Hopefully the next dance is better.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoANDREW you are so right!! More people will be at the dressy dance maybe because you get to dress up, which i must say i like! We need better songs played though because most of the time no one knows the song and its weird. Whenever someone is tired from dancing it is hard to relax on those hard benches! In the Megaron the seats are nice and soft like in the Student Center too! I am looking forward to the Dressy Dance!! See you all there!
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI couldn’t agree with you more Andrew. The last dance I went to I requested the same song about 4 times, and it never even got played! The gym was not the best place to have the dance, but there was not much that could be done about it. That night there was a dinner in the Megaron so that location was extinguished from our list. The dressy dance will be in the student center, and if the weather is nice we will be allowed to go on the Middle School quad.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoAndrew is right. But I doubt the dances will change that much. All the dances have been pretty much the same. Most are generally fun, but the last one was terrible.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoIf many of you enjoyed having dances in the Megaron, why would you refuse to attend when the second dance was in the Megaron?
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree with Andrew, I think there should longer slow dances, and I think the gym is to open. The Megaron would be a better place, it seems like a better place, there are more places to go in a smaller amount of space, like to sit down, or if you want to get up and dance the floor is write there. I think more people will come to the dressy dance as well because every one likes to dress up every once and a while, why not do it with your friends, and get to go dance with your boyfriend, or girlfriend. And if yo request a song then it should be played if they have time to play instead of playng bad ones.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI think that having the dance in the Old Gym was so much better than the Megaron. The Megaron was way too big and there were no doors and it was weird. The Dressy Dance will be better I think because it will be in the Student Center. I also think that we should have one last dance after the Dressy Dance at the very end of the year so we can have one last casual dance to end the year nicely. That would be a lot of fun.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoCarly, I don’t agree with you that the megaron was way too big because it was actually smaller than the gym. I also didn’t understand what you meant when you said there were no doors? I’m pretty sure are doors in that room. Overall, I think the dressy dance in the student center will be way better than all the past dances, and maybe the teachers could just stay in the outer part of that room where the doors are so they wont just be standing there glaring at everyone.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI actually agree with Carly, The Meagaron was too big, in my opinion. The teachers were in the same room staring us down, and it was really awkward. The Megaron would have been better if the 8th graders came.
Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree that having the dance in the gym was not a good idea. It was such a big expanse that when people would dance, it felt like everyone could see you. Having the dances in the megaron seems like a better place, but having the second dance there didn’t bring any eighth graders. While having the dances in the megaron should be the choice over the gym, we can’t blame the gym on the fact that the eighth graders didn’t show up.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI do agree that the gym was too big. You felt watched. Teachers were on the track above us watching our every move. So yes,It could be okward at times.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree that the last dance wasn’t very good because it was really open and there were only around twenty people. I also did not like how the teachers were just sitting in the same room eying everyone down. I think it was better in the gym because the teachers were in another room and there were a lot more people. I still agree with Andrew that the gym wasn’t the best place to have it, and I am glad that the dressy dance will be in the student center.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoThe second dance was somewhat of a disappointment with the absence of the 8th grade. I ended up leaving early with a few others. However, i thoroughly enjoyed the first dance in the old gym. That may have made my expectations of the second dance a bit too high. I am interested to see what dancing in the student center will be like, i still remain optimistic.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoThe second dance was really stupid. They had more teachers than kids there and we couldn’t even drink milk! The teachers followed us were ever we went even thought they could see and hear us from across the room. Like Andrew said nobody song did get played and if there going to take requested they should at least play them.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree with Andrew that the dances aren’t playing very good music and that they should play more of the requests given by students. The only thing I disagree with Andrew about is having the dance in the Megaron. If you had been to the last dance you would have realized how awkward it was for most of us seventh graders when having the dance there. I am kind of excited for the dressy dance, but I would agree with Carly that we should also have another casual dance. Hopefully the next dance will be more fun and in a more convenient building, or place.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI agree with Brooke S. because at the last two dances it was really awkward when the teachers would occasionally walk in and out, and would sometimes be staring at you. Also I agree that the dances are all about having fun with your friends and having a good time.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoBrooke, I agree with you completely. It was very awkward to have the teachers watching you while you are trying to enjoy the dance. It feels like you are sitting through a class in school!
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoI disagree mostly with Andrew. Yes, the Old Gym was a bit open, but the eighth graders seemed to be enjoying themselves. Also, people should not get mad about the song requests. Mr. Ham has probably ten people come two him at once, and he can’t play more than one song at once.
| Posted 3 years, 1 month agoAnd with the slow dances, I think they’re aren’t that much because only a small majority, mostly eighth graders want to dace to them. But, oh wait, I forgot. You’re eighth graders! Oh no, you have to have all the songs you want! We sixth and seventh graders are but humble servants to your royalness!
Henry the first dance was better because a lot of people where there , that is what I think .
